On Saturday 300 ProNutro JAGRunners took part in Kraaifontein A.C and WP Talent search race at Bernadino Heights High School in Kraaifontein. It was great to see how excited the organisers were when they saw our kids arriving. Everyone jumped to help us get our runners entries organised and wherever you looked their were people photographing our kids.
The coaches had a big task sorting out the entry cards for all their runners and did fantastically.
It is not easy to manage a big group of very energetic youngsters!
Next it was time to warm up. Each coach took his group runners to the fields and it was amazing to see these big yellow circles of runners doing their warm up. The energy and enthusiasm of the coaches was also amazing to see.
Start of the run was pretty crazy. There were around 700 kids all sprinting off at the same time and I felt like I was middle of a washing machine. One of our girls had a very nasty fall, and was a bit shaky getting up again, but when she lifted her head and saw the other runners were far
ahead she took off like a Jack Russel after a bunny rabbit and was never to be seen again. These
kids are tough!
In one of the groups I ran with, phrases like, “Keep the pace guys, keep the pace” and “2km down, 2 to go”,
were some of what I heard and this just showed that these kids aren’t just running wild but that the coaches
are imparting something valuable to them.
The kids ran very well, their fitness levels have definitely improved. Everyone was very excited about the
medals they received and some even won lucky draw prizes.
