KZN Coaches Visit

Over the last 3 days we have visited 4 Coaches on our My Coaching Backpack Coach Mentorship program in Natal. The 4 Coaches have running groups in Hermannsburg, Pietermaritzburg and Ixopo.

The coaches who are all learning to coach for the first time, have grown tremendously over the last 5 months. The ProNutro JAGRunners Master Coach, Marshall Moiloa, spent time mentoring the coaches after watching their coaching sessions. The coaches are very eager to learn and we are expecting great things to come.

We noticed a lot of raw talent among the youngsters. These young runners are extremely strong. We are sure that as the coaches grow we are going to see more than a few young stars emerging from the Zulu Kingdom.

The youngsters from all 4 groups are very excited about going to their first fun run, the annual Youth Run in Durban.

Thank you Protea Hotel Hilton for hosting the ProNutro JAGRunners team during the visit.

Ithemba Runners in first Cross Country

Mlo Fortune, the sports coach at Ithemba Projects just outsided Pietermaritzburg has been on our My Coaching Backpack Coach mentorship programme since January. He has a very enthusiastic and commited training group. Last Wednesday they competed in their first cross country race which was a huge success. In the photos you can see Mlo with one of his athletes who won the Junior girls race.

WP Duathlon Champs

Three ProNutro JAGRunners took part in the WP Duathlon Champs this weekend. All 3 boys finished in the top 3 of their age group. Nicholas Dlamini has been chosen to represent WP at the South African duathlon champs on 18 June.

City of Cape Town expanding our children's worlds

Thanks to the support of the City of Cape Town, the ProNutro JAGRunners recently had the opportunity to take part in the Milkwood fun run at Soetwater recreational area in Kommetjie.

Most of the kids had never been there before and it was a huge adventure for them to travel "over the mountain" to Kommetjie. They were amazed how beautiful it is at Soetwater and were having so much fun in this new exciting environment that they did not want to leave to go home.

The whole bus drive over the mountain and down the steep Ou Kaapse Weg was also a big (for some quite scary!) adventure.

All the race finishers got plants to take home instead of the usual medals. This was something very new to the kids and a great oppurtunity for the coaches to talk to them about looking after the environment. Some of the kids were not too sure what to do with the plants and the Coaches suggested they give the plant to their moms for mothers day which they thought was a fantastic idea.

Going to this event really expanded the world of these children and they now have a much bigger frame of reference to dream.
