JAGRUNNERS at Ginos

Last night 70 JAGRUNNERS mostly from Kayamandi and Cloetesville cluster took part in the
Ginos 5km fun run. Andy James from Bonteheuwel also took initiative and brought 9 of his runners
through for the race. All the runners did very well filling most of the top positions and 2 of the Runners
actually took a wrong turn and ended up doing the 10k at a pace that would leave most adults gasping for breath.
our coaches Christopher and Odwa also ran with the kids and Songo did the 10km. Christopher, the sports coordinator
at Pieter Langeveldt has been honing his fitness by running with the kids on the Mighty Metres which
shows that the program is having a wider impact than just the kids. Christopher was initially not going to run
because his knees were sore from all the mighty metres running, but next thing I saw him coming across
the finish line. His reason for the change of mind, “I need to set the example”. Wow good form Christopher!

About JAGRUNNERS

ProNutro JAGRunners was launched on 28 June 2008. ProNutro JAGRunners is a community based running programme designed to coach and motivate children to compete in running events. Supported by Western Cape Department of Education and eminent athletics coach, Dave Spence, the program seeks to recognize and cultivate gifted athletes from disadvantaged communities, promoting their personal development and allowing them to achieve both their athletic and personal potential.

Meyer said, “We work on the premise that actions speak louder than words, and we want ProNutro JAG Runners to make a real difference to these seriously disadvantaged children, introducing sport into their lives and maximising their potential. We need to invest in the personal development of our youth, whether it be through sport, culture or education.”

The ProNutro JAG Runners is active in communities such as Langa, Manenberg, Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, Mitchell’s Plain, Stellenbosch and Bonteheuwal. Committed to giving young people opportunities for growth, and encouraging a fitter, healthier and more focused lifestyle, the ProNutro Jag Runners aims to allow youth to achieve their personal best – whether at home, on the sporting field or in the classroom.
